Shevet Achim: Facilitating Good-Neighborliness

Here is a story that does not make the news media. A heart-warming story of a Christian organization that helps Israelis help Palestinians.

Many of you are already familiar with the work of Jonathan Miles and perhaps have had occasion to hear him speak. I would like to tell you a little more about the organization Jonathan founded, Shevet Achim (brothers sitting together [in unity], Ps. 133:1). Shevet Achim deals with saving Arab infants and children with severe heart problems for which no treatment is available locally. In cooperation with Israeli hospitals, many Arab children (most of whom live in Gaza) with severe cases of heart diseases have been helped and are alive today.

The purpose of Shevet Achim is: "Opening the doors of Israeli hospitals to our neighbors' dying children."

Here is how Jonathan describes what Shevet Achim does.

"Medical facilities in Israel are among the world's finest, yet kilometers away Arab children are dying for lack of care. This is particularly true for the hundreds born each year with congenital heart defects. Open-heart surgery can give most of these dying children a normal life, yet it is unavailable or inaccessible in their own areas. Israeli doctors and hospitals are willing to rescue these children, and in most cases bear a majority of the expense themselves. Our role is to find the children, transport them to Israel, and provide financial support as needed."

I would like to encourage you to visit the Shevet Achim website (http://www.shevet.org) and read Jonathan's latest report. Here is an opportunity to save the lives of children, bring about reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians, and let our Light shine before men (Mt. 5:16).

Please take a minute to look at the Shevet Achim website.
