Living the Dream of Israel's Ancient Prophets
Momentous events are taking place in Israel; although, without historical perspective, we cannot say how momentous.
This past week was a big week in Israel's history, as Israelis, often without realizing it, continue to live the dream of Israel's prophets of old. Remembrance Day was on Tuesday (16Apr02); Independence Day was on Wednesday; and Thursday, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Israel's best basketball team and last year's European champion, reached the Final Four--yes, Israel, like other modern states, has rich and poor, beggars and thieves, traffic accidents, and even sports events!
While remembering and celebrating, Israel was also fighting a war against Palestinian terrorists in an attempt to put an end to the deadly attacks on its civilians. Since the beginning of the Intifada in September 2000, 319 Israeli citizens--including Arab citizens of Israel--have been murdered, and 3,133 wounded. During March, 104 civilians were killed and 833 were wounded in terrorist attacks.
